She was born in Disputanta Dec. 3, 1914, to Lucy Jane Hancock Hargrave and George Wesley Hargrave and grew up in the Wakefield area. She married H.E. Farmer, Jr. of Abilene, Texas, on May 2, 1942, in Rome, GA.* She attended Blackstone (VA) Junior College and Asbury College (Wilmore, Ky.) and graduated from National Methodist Training School for Deaconesses and Missionaries (Kansas City. Mo.). She was employed in church-related vocations most of her life, including work in Texas and Washington, D.C. She retired from the staff of Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology, Dallas, in 1973. She and her husband spent their retirement years together in Gloucester and Wakefield, Va., and Dallas before moving to Merkel, Texas, in 1985. Following her husband’s death in 1993, she moved to Denver. She lived at Porter Place Retirement Residence and was an affiliate member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. She continued to have her church membership at the Wakefield United Methodist Church in Virginia. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia England of Old La Sal, Utah; nieces and nephews in Texas; a niece, Dana Wiggins of Portsmouth; a sister-in-law, Mrs. J. Marvin (Helen) Hargrave, of Newport News, and her children and their families, Phyllis Barfield of Smithfield, Sharon Coles of Newport News, Deborah Jones of Hampton and Lynn Kirkland of Newport News; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Raymond L. (Pauline) Hargrave, of Hampton, and her children and their families, Linda Hargrave of Hampton, Sandra Bodell of Troutville, Keith Hargrave of Athens, Ga., Dennis Hargrave of South Boston, Tim Hargrave of Ellicott City, Md., and Mark Hargrave of Newport News; and a cousin, Joanna Bowers of Columbia, GA. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield. Edith Virginia (HARGRAVE; Mrs. H.
