Mr. Gwaltney was a native of Surry County, a son of the late Joseph T. and Elizabeth Cox Gwaltney and had resided in Petersburg for 10 years. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emma L. Gwaltney, three daughters: Mrs. R.A. Logan of this city, Mrs. G.S. [sic; J.S.] Stewart of Dendron, and Mrs. O.C. Boothe of Claremont; three sons: C.M. and W.A. Gwaltney of Spring Grove, and William Gwaltney of this city; one brother, J.C. Gwaltney, Sr.; of Waverly; 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 in the chapel of J.T. Morris & Son. The Rev. Stacy W. Davis pastor of Elm Street Baptist Church and the Rev. R.E. Shaw, pastor of the Claremont Methodist Church will officiate.
