He was the husband of Mrs. Gladys N. Gilliam, of 4201 Bankhead Avenue, and the son of the late Joseph Loftin and Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson Gilliam, of Sussex County. Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alma Gilliam Surina, of Great Lakes, Ill., and Miss Gladys Lee Gilliam, of Norfolk; three sons, Joseph Garnett Gilliam, of Lee Hall; Junius Lavern Gilliam, of Lenoir, N.C., and Edwin Lawrence Gilliam, of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; one brother, Jodie Gilliam, of Tennessee, and one sister, Mrs. Beulah Jack, of Denver, Colo. The body was taken to the funeral home of W.J.M. Holland and Sons, of Franklin. Junious Long GILLIAM, retired railroad brakeman, b. 8 Nov 1890, Sussex Co., d. 8 Aug 1952, Norfolk, interred in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery*, Yale, "Norfolk Virginian-Pilot," Vol. 204, No. 40, Sat., Aug. 9, 1952, p. 14 *Additional information: A photo of his gravestone - added by Wilkie - is posted with Find a Grave Memorial #95588182. His father (1852 - 1938) & step-mother are also buried there. D.Cert. 18352 (Norfolk #1421) The Sussex Co. D.Reg. gives his mother as Lizzie H. GILLIAM, d. 30 Mar 1891, of heart disease, age 32, b. & d. Sussex Co., daughter of Henry & Bettie THOMAS; reported by husband J.L. GILLIAM.
