Otha Carlton "Doots" Griffin, Sr., 92, of Wakefield, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Mr. Griffin retired from Sussex Oil Company and was a member of Millfield Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Ivor Masonic Lodge #291 and both the Wakefield and Homeville Hunt Clubs. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Griffin and Alma Epps Griffin; grandchild, James Stacy Adams; brothers, Clarence, William and Wilson Griffin; and sister, Virginia Griffin Wright. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Morris S. Griffin; children, Amy G. Adams and husband, Rick; Connie G. Epperson and friend, Walt; Jean G. Whitmore and husband, Don; O. Carlton Griffin, Jr. and wife Susan; and Laura Lynn G. Reust and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Don Whitmore, Jr., Terri W. Pittman, Gene Faison, William Faison, and Robert Faison; step-grandchildren, Dustin and Davis Reust; five great-grandchildren and sisters, LeClare Brittle, Christine Vaden and Betty Lineberry Cook. A graveside service with Masonic Rites was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Wakefield Cemetery with Rev. Jay Butcher officiating. The family will receive friends at the home. Flowers are welcome or donations may be made to Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890. The family is being served by the Purviance Chapel of J.R. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Wakefield.
