All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ WALTER CLARENCE GRIFFIN WAKEFIELD - Mr. Walter Clarence Griffin, 87, died July 12, 1994 at Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond. He was native of Southampton County. He was the retired owner of the Midway Service Station and the Midway Café in Wakefield. He was active in many local organizations. He was member of the Wakefield Baptist Church where he was violinist for over 25 years. He was a charter member of the board of directors for both the Wakefield Community Hunt Club and the Wakefield Sportsman’s Club. He was a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club. He served as a member of the Wakefield Town Council from 1948 through 1966. Survivors include his wife, Fannie L. Griffin; a son, Dr. C.W. Griffin of Wakefield; four sisters, Leclare G. Brittle of Wakefield, Christine G. Vaden of Richmond, Virginia G. Wright of Denver, Colo., and Betty G. Lineberry of Wakefield; three brothers, O.C. Griffin of Wakefield, W.B. Griffin of Bradenton, Fla., and W.W. Griffin of Dolphin; and two grandchildren. A funeral was conducted July 14 at Wakefield Baptist Church by the Rev. Larry Grizzard. Burial was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, Waverly, Va. 23890. Purviance Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
