He was born on Nov. 27, 1922, at Buffalo Junction, Va., to the late Macon Lewis Garrett and Ida Powell Garrett. He had lived in Wakefield or Waverly since 1948. He retired as a store manager with Peebles Dept. Store after 40 years of service. He was a member of the Wakefield Masonic Lodge No. 198 AF & AM and Wakefield Ruritan Club. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Islands. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jacqueline Ray Sheffield Garrett; one son, George T. Garrett Jr. and his wife Anne Bunja Garrett of Timonium, Md.; one brother, F. Randolph Garrett of Buffalo Junction, Va.; two sisters, Leona Garrett Coleman of Boydton, Va., and Charlotte Garrett Duren of Charlotte, N.C. He was predeceased by his brother, William M. Garrett. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 6, at Wakefield United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. Family will greet friends after the services in the church fellowship hall. Harrell & Hill Funeral Home of Suffolk is in charge of the arrangements.
