All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ NANCY RAY FAISON THREEWITTS HUGHES DENDRON - Nancy Faison Threewitts Hughes, 87, of Dendron, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, in Harrisonburg. She was born on Sept. 14, 1923, in Surry County and was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Elizabeth (Edwards) Faison. She spent her entire life on her family farm outside of Dendron. Nancy was united in marriage on April 30, 1945, to James A. Threewitts who passed away in March 1991. In April 1998 she married Robert C. Hughes, MD, of Roanoke who passed away in September 1999. She is survived by three sons, Barry and his wife, Anne of Harrisonburg, Bob and his wife, Susan of Keezletown and tommy and his partner Collin of Glen Allen; six grandchildren, Jason Threewitts and wife, Pam of Troutville, Kathryn T. Pusey and husband, Ryan of Delmar Del., Christ Threewitts of Keezletown, Lee Threewittss of Harrisonburg, Blake Threewitts of Blacksburg and Dameon Hite of Glen Allen. She is also survived by five great- grandchildren. Nancy Graduated from Madison College (now JMU) and did graduate studies at the College of William and Mary. She spent her career in education - teaching in Surry, Sussex, Southampton Counties as well as Hopewell. She retired as director of Federal Programs for 15 years in the Surry County School System. She was active in her churches: Dendron Baptist and Wakefield United Methodist. She was also very interested in preserving our history. She was a member of the D.A.R. (Frances Bland Chapter), A.P.V.A. (Thomas Rolfe Branch), Dendron Historical Society, Walter Cecil Library, Surry Garden Club, JMU Alumnae and Sigma Sigma Sigma Alumnae Chapter. The family also wishes to give special thanks to many family and friends that visited and helped with travel and also the special caregivers that allowed Mom to be comfortable in her home, especially Alice Goodrich, Sherry Harrell, Maria Evans, Ruth Davin, Noni Kitchen and Cindy Wells. The funeral service will be held at Wakefield United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, with Pastor Willie B. Guill, Jr., and the Rev. Dawn Marie Singleton officiating. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the J.T. Morriss Funeral Home, Purviance Chapel in Wakefield from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wakefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 87, Wakefield, VA 23888 or the Dendron Historical Society, P.O. Box 308, Dendron, VA 23839.
