Aurelius Holt was a descendant of Randall Holt who was born in England ca. 1607. Randall came to America and married Mary Bailey ca. 1626. The Holts were some of the earliest residents of Surry County. Aurelius attended Rocky Hock Church. One of his children was Oscar Lee Holt (1899 - 1982). Lee Holt followed in his father’s footsteps and attended Rocky Hock Church. He has been described as a "pillar of the church," serving on the PPR Committee, a trustee, and very supportive of the church in many other ways. Lee Holt was active in community and agricultural organizations, a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Sussex and Surry, and was chairman of the Board of Agriculture in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Oscar Lee Holt farmed and lived where Oscar Owen and his wife live today on Owens Grove Road. In his youth, a favorite pastime was to participate in jousting tournaments. Aurelius and Oscar Holt are both buried in the Wakefield Cemetery. Thanks to Walter Westbrook (Lee Holt's grandnephew) for the picture.
