WAKEFIELD - Jesse Kincaid Hellyer Sr., 61, a resident of Wakefield, Va., died at his home on Thursday, June 7, 2001. Born in Philadelphia, Pa. , on Aug. 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Thomas A. and Eleanor Charles Hellyer. He retired as a master sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps after serving his country for 20 years, was active in local and surrounding communities, having served as past president of the Surry Elementary PTA, past treasurer of the Southside District PTA, and president of the Surry Chapter of the American Cancer Society. He worked hard for his community and was proud of his service to his county. He is survived by his wife, Andrea Francis Hellyer; two stepsons, Paul M. Britt, U.S. Marine Corps, Camp LeJuene, N.C., following in his stepfather’s footsteps, and Joseph A. Britt of the home; two sons, Jesse K. Hellyer, Jr. of Waverly and Curtis G. Hellyer of Guam; four daughters, Joan M. Hellyer and Nancy H. Harris of Langhorne, Pa., and Joycelynn A. Hellyer and Rosalynn E. Hellyer of Guam; seven grandchildren; and his sister, Harriet Turner of Langhorne, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial with military honors will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department.
