WAKEFIELD - Philip Aurelius Hines Jr., 83, died Sunday, March 25, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital, Suffolk. Mr. Hines was a native of Wakefield. He retired in 1976 with 20 years of service as an engineer and clerk with the Virginia Department of Transportation in Waverly. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church. Survivors include his wife, Otis Virginia Browning Hines; a brother, Virginius W. Hines of Wakefield; and a sister, Winnie H. Harrison of Ivor. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Wakefield Cemetery by Dr. R.E. Brittle. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Waverly Rescue Squad, Waverly 23890; Ivor Rescue Squad, Ivor 23866; or Wakefield volunteer Fire Department, Wakefield 23888.
