She was born in Southampton County. She was a former member of Surry United Methodist Church. She was a hostess at the Rolfe Warren House for the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. Survivors include her husband, William Richard Hamlin of Petersburg; one daughter Ms. Wendolyn H. Hamlin of Virginia Beach; one son, William R. Hamlin, Jr. of New York City, N.Y.; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy B. Owen of Jarratt, Mrs. Claudine B. Collier of California, Md., Miss Catherine Barrett of Arlington and Mrs. Josie B. West of Richmond; and two brothers, Gordon Barrett of Alexandria and Philip Barrett, Jr. of Winston-Salem, N.C. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Lee E. Chattin. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Ruth Hope (BARRETT; Mrs. William R.)
