Victim of the non-collision accident was H.L. Harris, for the past 38 years, town sergeant of Wakefield and Deputy Sheriff of Sussex County. Harris drove his 1949 Dodge sedan into the abutment, about two and a half miles east of Warerly, about 3:30 p.m. He died about 4:45 p.m , a few minutes after being taken to Lakeview. State Trooper T.W. Moran, who investigated the accident, could offer no reason for the crash. He said the impact drove the front portion of the car so far back that the dashboard touched the front seats. Native of Sussex Born a few miles out from Wakefield on a farm, Harris had lived in that vicinity all his life. According to acquaintances, he was one of the best- known men in Sussex County. He belonged to the Masons, Ruritans, and was a member of the Wakefield Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bessie Hargrave Harris; his son, Elwood Lee Harris, of Wakefield; two sisters, Miss Kate Harris, of Wakefield, and Mrs. J.J. Temple, of Petersburg; and two grandsons. The funeral will take place 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Harris home in Wakefield. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery.
