All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JOSEPH HUGH "SLICK" HARGRAVE DENDRON - Joseph Hugh "Slick" Hargrave, 85, husband of the late Orlean Rollings Hargrave, passed away Friday, December 26, 2003, at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital in Suffolk, Virginia. He was born in Surry County on October 3, 1918, the son of the late Hugh Jasper Hargrave and Inez Whitmore Hargrave; was a member of Dendron Baptist Church; a founding father of Blackwater Sportsman's Club, a member of The Old Guards of Dendron; was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served his country during World War II; was a retired farmer and general contractor; and had worked for the Town of Dendron for twenty years. Mr. Hargrave is survived by his daughter, Anita H. Curl and husband R. Edward Curl of Dendron; his son, J. Dwight Hargrave of Midlothian; five grandchildren, Brandee Curl, Chrystal Curl, Mary Sanders and husband, William, Shannon Hargrave and Rand Hargrave; great-grandchildren, Kaeleigh Hargrave, Gavin Cave, Chase Sanders, and Megan Sanders; and his sister, Lois Barrett of Wakefield. Funeral services will be held in Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, on Monday, December 29, 2003, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Burial will be held in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Dendron Vol. Fire Dept. or the Arthritis Foundation.
