JOYNER MERCHANT OF WAVERLY, DIES WAVERLY - Joseph Edward Joyner, 60, Waverly businessman, died Thursday in a Richmond hospital. He was a consignee for Texaco Corp. 30 years and also a merchant. He was a native of Southampton County and a member of the Waverly Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and superintendent. He was a former member of Waverly Town Council and Waverly Rotary Club. A funeral service will be held in Waverly Baptist Church Saturday at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Waverly cemetery. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Huntas Laine Joyner; two daughters, Mrs. Huntas Joyner Knight of Waverly and Mrs. Aubrey S. Bass, Jr. of Richmond; three brothers, Elijah Joyner, William Joyner and Charlie Joyner of Franklin; and three grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers contributions he made to American Cancer Society.
