WAKEFIELD - A funeral service for Crawley Allen Laine, Jr., 73, will be held at 2 p.m. today in Wakefield United Methodist Church by Rev. James M. Tongue. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery with Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, in charge. Pallbearers were L.A. Brantley Sr., J. Russell West, Massey Joyner, Woodroy Moore, Elton Stephenson, J.W. Renney, Elwood Harris and Jack P. Bain. Laine died Monday in a hospital. A native of Wakefield, he was an assistant cashier and manager of the Wakefield branch of the Bank of Sussex and Surry from 1949 to 1955 and the Ivor branch from 1955 to 1983. Laine was a lifelong member of Wakefield United Methodist Church and a member of its board of stewards and administrative board. He was a 50 years member of the choir. Survivors include his wife, Christeen Magee Laine; two sons, C. Allen Laine III of Newport News and Brian Magee Laine of Wakefield; four sisters, Lena L. Saunders of Sandston, Jesse L. Whittel of Gainesville, Ga., Fannie L. Griffin of Wakefield and Lucy L. Lonberger of Ivor; three brothers, Arthur C. Laine of Wakefield, Albert M. Laine of Richmond and Hugh Carter Laine of New Jersey; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield United Methodist Church memorial fund or the Ivor Rescue Squad.
