LUCY BRANCH LAINE

   WAKEFIELD - Mrs. Lucy Branch Laine, 77, the widow of Crawley A. Laine Sr., 
died Monday in a Petersburg nursing home.

   A native of Southampton County, she was a daughter of William E. and Mrs. 
Betty Jenkins Branch.  She was a member of Wakefield Methodist Church.

   Surviving are four daughter, Mrs. E.G. Saunders of Sandston, Mrs. W.C. 
Griffin of Wakefield, Mrs. F.H. Wittel of Atlanta and Mrs. S. Watson White of 
Elberon; four sons, A.D. Laine and Crawley A. Laine Jr. of Wakefield, and 
Albert M. Laine and Hugh C. Laine of Richmond; a sister, Mrs. Elnor B. 
Goodrich of Suffolk; 16 grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

   A funeral service was held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, 
Wakefield, by the Rev. Edward B. Owen.  Burial was in Wakefield Cemetery.

   Pallbearers were J.N. Barker, S.I. Jenkins, V.L. Worrell Sr., Norman W. 
Boykins, S.A. Brantley, W.B. Peebles, S.E. Branch and E.S. Kitchen.
