MRS. PEARL LAINE 

  WAKEFIELD - Mrs. Pearl Burgess Laine, 67 [sic; 57], died Tuesday in a 
hospital after a long illness. 

  A native of Surry County, she was a member of the Wakefield Christian 
Church. 

  She is survived by her husband, Arthur C. Laine of Wakefield; a son, Arthur 
T. Laine of Petersburg; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip Underwood of Waverly; one 
sister, Mrs. E.W. Scarborough of Washington, D.C.; three brothers, Roy E. 
Burgess of Richmond, E.T. Burgess of Arlington and W.R. Burgess of Washington, 
D.C.; and one grandson. 

  Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Purviance 
Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield and the Rev. E.B. 
Owens.  Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery.
