MARY LONG, 75 DIES AT PETERSBURG WAKEFIELD - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Long, 75, widow of Joseph Pat Long, died Wednesday morning in a Petersburg hospital after a short illness. A native of Lynchburg, Mrs. Long was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church. Survivors are two sons, J. Lawrence Long and J. Manley Long, both of Wakefield, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. D.M. Cotter, pastor of the Wakefield Baptist Church, officiating. LONG RITES TO BE HELD FRIDAY Mary Elizabeth Long, 75, died May 6, at a Petersburg hospital after a short illness. She was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church, native of Lynchburg and wife of the late Joseph H. (Pat) Long. Survivors include two sons, J. Lawrence Long and J. Manley Long, both of Wakefield, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at Purviance Funeral Chapel with Rev. D.M. Cotter and Dr. John E. White, officiating. Burial will be at Wakefield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be G.L. Munford, T.H. Scott, W.C. Griffin, G.T. Allen, V.L. Worrell, Sr., Lyster Altizer, S.I. Jenkins, and William Peebles. It mistakenly gives her husband as John Henry. Her father may be identical with the "Laurence McCORDLE" who m. 4 Sep 1878 in Campbell Co. (Ancestry.com "Virginia Marriages") Her widowed father, Lawrence McCARDLE, son of Owen & Mary McCARDLE, a native of Bedford Co., 2m. 19 Dec 1888 in Lynchburg. He may be identical with the L.E. McCARDLE, b. ca. 1854 "in Lynchburg," who d. of epilepsy 15 Jul 1894 in Western State Hospital, Staunton. (Ancestry.com "Virginia Deaths") Find a Grave Mem. #42274090 gives L.E. McCORDLE, citing the hospital records. He is buried in the hospital cemetery. Her widowed step-mother, Laura Ann (LANCASTER) McCARDLE 2m. 2 Jun 1896 John Henry CREASY, in Lynchburg.
