All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ DAVID LEE LANIER WAKEFIELD - David Lee Lanier, 67, a resident of Wakefield, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009 in Norfolk, Va., after a short illness. Born June 29, 1941 in Washington D.C., he was the son of the late O’Kelley Abraham Lanier and Katherine Louise Zimmerman Lanier. He was preceded in death by his son, David O’Kelley Lanier. David was a proficient and skilled carpenter and a retired farmer. He was the proud owner of Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in Wakefield and a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church, Lanier Hunt Club, and Wakefield Sportsmen’s Club. Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife of 48 years, Almeda Slade Lanier; daughter, Marjorie Louise Gay and her husband, Reginald; son, Richard Lee Lanier and his wife, Tammy; two brothers, Albert Lanier and Robin Lanier and his wife, Christine; sister, Louise Garris and her husband, Winks, all of Wakefield; and a sister, Julie Cross and her husband, Bubba of Como, N.C. David was a devoted husband, loving father, and was affectionately known as "Dado" to the many children who passed through his home over the years as part of his wife, Almeda’s day care center. He is also survived by his two special "girls," Chrystal Curl Rogers and Brandee Curl Davenport. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., officiated by the Rev. Jim Kerr. A sunset interment service will be held at 7:45 p.m. in Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to your local rescue squad. Purviance Chapel, J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, is handling the arrangements for the family.
