He passed in his home with his loving wife by his side. Randolph was born on June 29, 1928 to the late Charlie Cephas and Essie Kate Murphy in Wakefield, Virginia. At age 20, Randolph married the love of his life, Dolly Faison Murphy. Together they built a home on the farm. He and his "Rose Bud" have been married for almost 65 years. The two made Wakefield, Virginia their lifelong home. He worked the family farm with his father until his fathers' passing at which time Randolph took on the farm himself. He was a row crop and livestock farmer, always known for his straight rows. He raised many crops and cows, but pigs were always his passion. In his free time, he was an avid hunter and long time member of Farmer's Hunt Club. He was also a dedicated member of the cooking team of the Shad Planking held annually in Wakefield. Along with his parents, Randolph was preceded in death by a son, Freddie R. Murphy; grandson, Christopher R. Murphy and great-grandson, Colby Maddrey. ****************************************************************************** CHARLIE RANDOLPH "TUCK" MURPHY 1928 - 2014 SUBMITTED BY EDWIN AND LARAINE MURPHY Randolph's life story could be told by looking at his hands. He had giant hands. His hands were strong. They worked long, hard hours. They plowed the land, they mended the fences. These hands were strong enough to control an entire herd of cattle or a pen full of hogs. Yet they were gentle enough to pick up that one little baby pig which was just not strong enough, to take it in and care for it until it was stronger. His hands were strong enough to work the long hours needed to provide for his lovely wife, Dolly, and gentle enough to love her tenderly for sixty-six years. They were gentle enough to raise two sons of which he was so proud and yet strong enough to bear losing Freddie, one of his beloved sons. Randolph was a hands-on grandfather to six grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. He spent time with them teaching them the values of life. He also taught them how a woman was to be treated, as he always showed his love and respect for their grandmother. Thought his hands were so big and strong, you never saw them raised in anger, for in the strength of those hands laid much control. Charlie Randolph "Tuck" Murphy with hands full of strength, the man full of strength, in his hands, the story of the man, "Strong." Randolph was a lifelong member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, a longtime member of Farmers Hunt Club, and a cook at the annual Wakefield Ruritan Club Shad Planking. After a courageous battle with cancer, he was laid to rest at Wakefield Cemetery.
