Morris, 88, passed away Monday, April 26, 2004, at Hunter McGuire VA Hospice in Richmond, Va. Born Oct. 5, 1915, in Sussex County, he was a son of the late Clayton C. Morris and Patty [sic; Pattie] Laine Morris. Mr. Morris was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps, owned and operated Amoco Service Station in Wakefield for 35 years, and was an employee of Georgia Pacific from 1984 to 2003. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Owen Morris. Dennis is also survived by a daughter, Deanne Morris Flynn of Richmond; a grandson, John Patrick Flynn, III of Greenville, S.C.; an aunt, Elva Laine Magee of Wakefield; two uncles, Rev. Woodrow Laine of Richmond and Rev. Amos L. Laine of Dunn, N.C.; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Garland C. Morris, and two sisters, Jane Frith and Doris M. Bryant. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. G.C. Branton III officiating. Committal services will be held in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield United Methodist Church in honor of Mr. Morris. Purviance Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
