Nobles, 76, resident of Elberon, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996. A native of North Carolina, he was the son of the late Joseph L. and Ora Lee Martin Nobles. He retired in 1964 after a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy. As a chief boatswain’s mate, he served in World War II, Korea and Lebanon. He was a Methodist and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association. His wife was the late Elinor Loretta Cyr Nobles. He is survived by a daughter, Loretta L. Parrish of Richmond; a brother, Joseph L. Nobles of Houston, Texas; a sister, Eleanor N. Edmonds of Bevard, N.C.; nine grandchildren, including William J. Knecht of Elberon; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral will be held in Wakefield Cemetery Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Randy Duncan. The family will assemble at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, at 9 a.m. Tuesday for the precession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
