All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EDWARD ELLIOTT O'BERRY Mr. Edward Elliott O'Berry, 88 1/2, of Colonial Heights, Virginia, formerly of Wakefield, Virginia went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 9, 2010 at 3:14 p.m. due to a short illness. Mr. O'Berry was born on September 23, 1921 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia to Joseph Henry O'Berry and Anne Mae Norris O'Berry, both deceased. He was preceded in death by eleven siblings. Mr. O'Berry was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, Virginia and also served as a deacon and welcome usher to the congregation and their beloved children. He was a former employee of the Navy Ship Yard, Planters Nut and Chocolate Company and retired in 1989 from Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company, where he won many conventions as a top salesman in the Petersburg District 4. He traveled to Orlando, Florida, New York City, New York, Los Vegas, Nevada, Niagara Falls, and other conventions during his employment. He is survived by his wife, Joyce J. Williams O'Berry; two daughters, Gloria Jean O'Berry Mitchell and husband, William (Bill) Mitchell of Buffalo, Kentucky and Cathy Sue O'Berry Hurt and husband, John Hurt of New Bern, North Carolina, Gloria and Cathy are daughters of Martha E. Chapman O'Berry, his first wife, deceased. Mr. O'Berry inherited four more children when he and Joyce married, Bruce W. Williams of Chester, Virginia, Clarence A. Williams III (Bebe) of Scottsville, Virginia, Kim Williams Smith and husband, Stephen C. Smith of Jacksonville Florida, and Susan Williams Andrews and husband, Francis O. (Andy) Andrews Jr. of Matoaca, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Carson of Hodgenville, Kentucky, Joanna L. Earls and husband, Kirk Earl of North Carolina,Amber R. McLawhorn and husband, Justin of Wilmington, North Carolina, Gaston C. Andrews and Miss Casey M. Andrews both of Matoaca, Virginia, Ivey M. Smith of Jacksonville, Florida and Sarah Williams Trowell and husband, Jordan Trowell of Brookville, Florida; two great-grandchildren, Layn McLawhorn and Mollie Trowell; one sister, Barbara O. Worrell of Ivor, Virginia and a sister-in-law, Elsie O'Berry of Windsor, Virginia as well as many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights Virginia 23834 with the Reverend Curtis Barnes and the Reverend Rodney Chestnut officiating. Interment will be held at 4:00 p.m. in Wakefield, Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 - 2:00 p.m. at the church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
