CHARLES STEBBINS OWEN, JR.

  Charles Stebbins Owen Jr. 83, of Wakefield Virginia went to be with his Lord 
on December 15th.  Charles was the son of Charles Stebbins Owen Sr. and Edith 
Edwards Owen, beloved husband of Virginia McCandliss Owen, brother of 
Elizabeth Owen Morris, deceased Oscar Russell Owen and Robert Lee Owen.  He 
was the father of Mark Charles Owen, Patricia Ann Owen, Willard John David 
Owen III and Matthew Edward Owen.  He was the step-father of William Thoet 
and Virginia Mihelcic.  Charles was the grandfather of Melanie Owen, Nicole 
Wilkinson Cassidy Fletcher, John David Owen IV, Savannah Owen and Tessa Owen, 
as well as the great-grandfather of 3.  He was the step-grandfather of 
Virginia, Ezekiel, Julia and Samuel Mihelcic, Emily and Alison Thoet and had 
many nieces and nephews.  Charles was born in his parents’ farm house in 
Wakefield on August 16th 1929.  He joined the US Army at 16 years of age. 
After leaving the Army as a Corporal Charles became a CPA in 1963.  He started 
a long prosperous business career where he was President of Southern 
Industries Executive Vice President of Solaronics Inc. President of Truxmore 
Inc. Financial Advisor to Benjamin Coats Shipping Company and Vice President 
of Finance for the Virginia Insurance Reciprocal.  He was actively involved 
throughout his career in his community golf and hunting serving as the 
Treasurer of the Sportsman Club and Wakefield Hunt Club Member of the Board 
Treasurer and President of the Meadowbrook Country Club Member of Sussex 
County Planning Commission, Member of Cypress Cove Country Club Member of Fort 
Lee Golf Club and Member of Wakefield United Methodist Church.  Service is at 
the Wakefield Baptist Church 104 W Church Street Wakefield at 11:00 AM 
Wednesday December 19th followed by a reception.  Donations to the food pantry 
of your choice.
