Owney, 64, of Waverly, died Monday in Sussex County. Born in Sussex County, he was a carpenter for Cowling Brothers General Contractors. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peggy O. Sams of Richmond; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Gay and Mrs. Maude Rolley, both of Waverly; two brothers, Waverly H. Owney of Smithfield and J. Wilson Owney of Ivor; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Rocky Hock United Methodist Church cemetery, Surry, by the Rev. James M. Tongue. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Waverly Rescue Squad. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, in charge.
