Born and raised in Wakefield, he was a son of the late Charles Stebbins Owen, Sr. and Edith Edwards Owen. Oscar loved his community and was very involved in it. He was one of the founding members of the Virginia Tractor Pullers Association, a lifetime member and former deacon of Wakefield Congregational Christian Church, a member of the Wakefield Ruritan for 58 years and a member of the Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department for 50 years. Oscar was also predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Owen Morris and a brother, Charles Stebbins Owen, Jr. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Precious" Bailey Owen, daughters, Dorenda "Rendy" Owen Powers and husband Bill and Melinda Morris Owen; grandchildren, Dr. Will Powers and wife, Brandy, Rusty Davis and wife, Amy, Jason S. Holt and Kate E. Truitt; great granddaughter, Ella Katherine Powers; brother Bobby Owen and wife, Ethel and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Fleetwood Ave., Wakefield VA 23888 from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service with honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the Fire Department with Rev. Steven R. Gibson officiating. Burial will follow at Wakefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wakefield Volunteer Fire Department, 155 Fleetwood Ave. Wakefield, VA 23888. R.W. Baker & Co.
