He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Helen Edwards Pittman: his children, Carolyn Pittman Holstead, Thomas Alton Pittman and wife Susan, Gerald Wayne Pittman and wife, Lori, and Norma Pittman Dunagan; grandchildren, Beth, Chase, Sarah and husband Kelly, Gerald Jr., and Kori; great- grandchildren, Madison, Kaydence, Zeke, Dustyn, and Carsyn; sisters, Frances Burgess, Becky Dillion, and Anne Lile and husband, Raymond; his cousin, Joe Hancock and wife, Kitty; his nieces, Teresa Erickson and Cindy Adair, and numerous others, cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Percy and Corrine Pittman; a sister Jeanette, and brothers, Eugene, Randolph, Arthur Lee, and Lawrence. He served in the U.S. Army in the fifties. He retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Mackey Island National Wildlife Rufuge where he received several awards for his hard work and dedication. Daddy loved to restore old tractors and work in his very organized garage. He could fix anything. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other positions through the years. Every Sunday he would select a Bible verse and share it with the children’s class. He always let everyone know that Jesus loved them and taught his grandchildren and great-grandchildren the son "Jesus Loves Me". We will all be together again because of his example, guidance and leadership. The family would like to thank those who helped to care for Daddy over the past year; Tracy, Nicole, and a very special God-Send to us all, Jamie. Please join the family for a Celebration of His Life on Thursday, April 23rd at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Chuck Moseley officiating. In honor of Daddy’s love for sweets, there will be a desserts reception in the church social hall, immediately following the service. Memorial donations may be made to a mission church that some of our family is involved with, Calvary Baptist Church, 801 Riverside Ave., Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909 or to the Creeds Volunteer Rescue Squad. The family is being served by R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel.
