He was born in Southampton County and a retired farmer. He was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Grace Lowe Pittman; three daughters, Mrs. Fay P. Rogers, Mrs. Jacqueline P. O’berry, both of Wakefield, and Mrs. Jane P. Jones of Ivor; two sons, Jack W. Pittman, Jr. of Smithfield and Jerry M. Pittman of Portsmouth; four sisters, Mrs. Mytrie P. Saunders of Smithfield, Mrs. Marguerite P. Lowe of Elberon, Mrs. Cora P. Babb of Ivor and Miss Louise Pittman of Petersburg; two brothers, Joseph E. Pittman and Lyster H. Pittman, both of Ivor; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Revs. Parker Hooper and Jess Staton. Burial will follow in the Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence, 216 Savedge Ave., Wakefield. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Waverly Rescue Squad.
