Alice had a real zest for life and was enthusiastic about everything in which she participated. Her personality was overflowing and she knew no strangers. She worked at her husband's side in their business, Purviance Funeral Home in Wakefield, for many years. She leaves behind her husband, three sons, a daughter and five grandchildren. Alice always held her church dear. She was instrumental in the establishment of the Preschool program at the Wakefield Methodist Church. Upon joining the Rocky Hock Church family, she immediately joined the church choir. She headed "Spring Fling" for several years, and helped with, then organized Vacation Bible School. Many children in the community participated in Rocky Hock Church's Vacation Bible School because of Alice's desire for children to experience a relationship with Jesus. Alice chaired the Evangelism Committee for the church as well. Accompanied by her husband Sam on the guitar, she introduced and led the Praise Music, which is sung regularly at worship service. "Sanctuary" became their signature song. Alice's presence at Rocky Hock Church was always energetic and full of laughter and joy. Alice promoted each endeavor with a unique prop to energize the crowd for an upcoming event. It was not unusual to see her in a Dr. Seuss hat, holding a windsock, a whirlybird, or a scarf around her neck to get her point across. Alice Ann (WILLIAMS EWALD; Mrs. Samuel W.)
