Pursell III, 65, died Thursday, Jan. 11, in the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, Richmond. Mr. Pursell was a former resident of Wakefield and Dendron. He retired in 1971 as owner and operator of Parkhill Service Market, Petersburg. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a 1945 graduate of The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg. Survivors include his wife, Gladys Franklin Pursell; and one son, William H. Pursell IV of Petersburg. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield by the Rev. Jack K. Hardy Jr. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The College of William and Mary.
