WAKEFIELD - John Thomas Presson, Jr., 71, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, at his home. Presson, a native of Southampton County, attended Millfield Baptist Church and was a retired farmer of Southampton County. Survivors include a son, John Thomas Presson III of Wakefield; one daughter Sibyl Presson Beale of Franklin; four sisters, Mrs. Stella P. Van Hatter of Newport News; Miss Connie P. Tomlinson of Richmond; Mrs. Edith P. Tomlinson of Midlothian and Mrs. Margaret P. King of TX; one brother, Leonard D. Presson of Richmond; two grandchildren Pixie Lynn Russell of Suffolk and Debra Gail Palmer of Portsmouth. A graveside service was held Thursday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m. in Wakefield Cemetery with the Dr. R.E. Brittle officiating. Pallbearers were Lannie Chitwood, Charles West, John Henry Carter, Barry Ferguson, Clyde Boykin, Wallace Brittle, Dick Dawson and Randolph Jones. Memorial donations may be made to Ivor Rescue Squad.
