All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ JAMES ALLEN REVELLE "PETE" REVELLE DIES SOON AFTER TRAFFIC ACCIDENT James Allen Revelle, 53, manager of Texaco’s Waverly distributing plant, died apparently of natural causes 15 minutes after he was in a traffic accident near Windsor, Tuesday afternoon. He was driving a company oil truck that collided with a car. He collapsed while walking about the scene of the collision a mile east of Windsor. His truck had struck the back of a Parker Peanut company auto driven by C.J. Holcombe, Jr., of Suffolk. Revelle apparently died of a heart ailment, Dr. B.F. Johnson, of Smithfield, Isle of Wight County medical examiner said. He said death was at 3:30 p.m., about 15 minutes after the accident. Holcombe and Revelle were both southbound on U.S. 460 and Holcombe was turning into a residential driveway when the back of the car was hit by the truck, State Trooper S.V. Everheart of Ivor reported. The Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad was called to the scene and tried unsuccessfully to revive Revelle. The body was taken to Obici Hospital and later to the Purviance Funeral Home. Neither driver was injured in the actual crash, the trooper said. A lifelong resident of Wakefield, Revelle had worked for Texas Oil Company the last 25 years. His parents were James R. and Mrs. Tokea Freeman Revelle. He was a member of the Wakefield Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Kathleen Bailey Revelle of Wakefield; two daughters, Mrs. Erle Miles, Jr., of Decatur, Ga., and Miss Sandra James Revelle of Wakefield; one sister, Mrs. Sanford Woodlief of Greenville, S.C.; his stepmother, Mrs. J.T. Faircloth, Sr., of Ivor, and one granddaughter. A funeral service was held in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, Thursday at 4 p.m. by the Rev. L.P. Bland of Wakefield Methodist Church and Rev. D.M. Cotter of Wakefield Baptist Church. Burial was in Wakefield Cemetery. Pallbearers were E.L. Harris, C.A. Anderson, Sr., L.J. Monahan, Jr., C.A. Anderson, Jr., Edgar Faison, Jack Bailey, S.A.
