He was born in Sussex Co., son of the late John Edwin and Louise Simmons Bell Reese [sic*]. He received his early education on Portland, Va., later attended the College of William and Mary, was a member of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity. He was a well-known lumber and timber estimator and worked as a telegrapher on the Virginian Railroad. He helped located the Johns- Mansville Plant in Jarratt, Va. and was the first industrial relations manager of the plant until 1942, then purchased a lumber company in Wakefield which became known as the Reese Lumber Co. He was active in land and timber sales till his death. A member and trustee of the Wakefield Baptist Church. He was charter member of the Jarratt Ruritan Club, former member of the Elks and Eagles Clubs of Petersburg, a member of the Wakefield Masonic Lodge No. 198 and a member of the Confederate Sons of America. Mr. Reese is survived by his wife, Mary Blanche Short Reese and two daughters, Mrs. Beverly F. Carson, Franklin; and Mrs. Gene Glasco of Virginia Beach; son, Thomas Edwin Reese, Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Milton Shufelt, Richmond, Mrs. Leon Matthews and Miss Annie Reese of Jarratt and Mrs. E.O. Whitmore, Sebrell; three nieces, Miss Dorothy Reese Parker, Surry; Mrs. Herbert Parker, Hopewell and Mrs. David Engel, Valparaiso, Indiana; a nephew, Oscar E. Parker, Wakefield; three aunts, Misses Berta and Jean Reese of Sebrell, Mrs. Maggie Sledge, Emporia and an uncle, Lewis Reese, Sebrell. Mr. Reese has willed his body to the Eastern Medical School. Memorial service will be held at the Wakefield Baptist Church, Wednesday July 30, 11 a.m. Rev. David Irving officiating.
