Thomas was born in Purdy, VA, the son of the late Thomas Emmett and Mary Blanche Short Reese. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Anne Reese Carson. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Judy; sister, May Sue Glasco (Gene) of Virginia Beach; sons, David Cosner Reese (Candy), and John Edwin Reese, all of Richmond, VA; stepsons, Robert Brown of Newport News, VA, and Roy Brown (Michele) of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Kate Reese, Casey Deweese (Austin), and Stephen Duff, all of Richmond, VA, Donovan Brown of Charlotte, NC and Kellie Brown of Chesapeake, VA. Thomas graduated Fork Union Military Academy in 1950; served as a 1st Lieutenant with the 82nd Airborne, Fort Bragg, NC. He attended the College of William and Mary, Longwood College, and Hampton Sydney University. Thomas was Past Master of Virginia Beach Lodge #274; High Priest of Princess Anne Royal Arch Chapter 1607; Sovereign Master of Allied Masonic Degrees #129; all of Virginia Beach, VA, a member of Wakefield Lodge #198, and a member of the Scottish Rites. For the Masonic year 2002, Thomas had the honor to serve as District Deputy Grand Master for the 56th Masonic District. He loved Masonry. He was also a member of Wakefield Baptist Church, the Wakefield Ruritans, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Wakefield Baptist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
