RAINES DIES; FUNERAL SERVICES FRIDAY WAKEFIELD DOCTOR HAD SERVED AREA FOR 40 YEARS Funeral services for Dr. Thomas Morton Raines, 74, will be held from his home in Wakefield at 2:30 Friday afternoon with burial in Wakefield Cemetery. Services will be conducted by his pastor, Rev. Samuel L. Dumville, and the Rev. W.G. Bates, Jr., pastor of Mathews Methodist Church. Dr. Raines died at 8:30 a.m., Thursday morning at his residence after an illness of several weeks. He was the son of Dr. Benjamin Franklin Raines and Mrs. Martha Morton Raines and was a native of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He began practice of medicine in Wakefield in 1908 after practicing in Sebrell, Virginia, for two years. He attended the College of William and Mary and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alice Hill Raines, one daughter, Alice Morton Raines, and one son, Thomas Morton Raines, Jr.; a sister, Miss Sue Raines of Carson; two brothers, Benjamin F. Raines, Jr., of Washington D.C., and Victor E. Raines, of Carson; a sister-in-law, Mrs. W.L. Raines and nephew, Mason Raines, of Washington D.C., and one niece, Miss Lucy Raines, of Alexandria. Active pallbearers will be W.M. Leech, C.A. Anderson, J.L. Francis, Mason Raines, Briggs Peebles, and H.L. Harris. His parents are buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. His first wife, Elizabeth (PEEBLES) RAINES {1877-1934}, and her parents are also buried there.
