BYRD - JAMES N. SAVEDGE JR., 33, DIES AT HOME IN WAKEFIELD WAKEFIELD - James Nicholas Savedge, Jr., 33, special assistant on the staff of U.S. Sen. Harry F. Byrd Jr. of Virginia, died Friday in his home. A native of Wakefield, he was a member of Wakefield United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Frederick College and the law school of the College of William and Mary. He was a past master of Wakefield Masonic Lodge 198. He was also a member of Wakefield Ruritan Club and Wakefield Sportsmen and Hunt Club. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jane Pennington Savedge; his parents, Wakefield Mayor James N. Savedge Sr. and Mrs. Faye Savedge; a daughter, Miss Ann Chappell Savedge, and a brother, William B. Savedge, all of Wakefield; and a sister, Miss Catherine Savedge of Williamsburg. A funeral service, with Masonic rites, was held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Wakefield Cemetery by the Rev. Edward B. Owen and the Rev. R.L. Consolvo. Pallbearers were James N. Baker, Jr., John H. Clements, Dr. C.W. Griffin, Robert C.jJordon and Mr. Russell Magee. Also were D. Lathan Mims, Thomas M. Raines, Jr., Edward J. White, V.L. Worrell Jr. and Jack Bain. Memorials may be made to William R. Jordan Camp for Diabetic Children, care of Dr. W.R. Jordan, 1631 Monument Ave., Richmond. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, was in charge.
