All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ HARTWELL BAIRD STEPHENSON Hartwell Baird Stephenson, 70, of 1023 Selma Blvd., died at 5 p.m. Saturday (May 19, 1973) in King’s Daughters’ Hospital where he had been a patient since Friday. He was born Jan. 17, 1903 in Wakefield, a son of Walter A. and Augusta (Baird) Stephenson. Mr. Stephenson had been a resident of Staunton for 17 years. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Wakefield Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Effie (Fauber) Stephenson; one son, Maj. Hartwell B. Stephenson Jr., U.S. Army in Killeen, Tex; one daughter, Mrs. Helen B. Mills of Portsmouth; two sisters, Miss Mary Stephenson of Williamsburg and Mrs. C.B. Watkins of Masanetta Springs; four step-children, Dr. Jean G. Swart of Arlington, Mrs. G.R Alphin of Buchanan, Mrs. R.M. Morgan of Andersonville and Hugh M. Swartz of Martinsville; four grandchildren. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel of the Fred Henry Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Old Wakefield Cemetery at Wakefield. Pallbearers will be A.J. Simmons, James S. Simmons Jr., M. Phillip Dedrick, Clarence R. Moore and James Borden, Jr. Friends will be received at the residence.
