He was a native of Sussex County and had lived in Surry County most of his life. He was a carpenter by trade, member of Rocky Hock Methodist Church and the Wakefield Hunt Club. His father was the late James G. Stewart. Besides his wife, surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mamie Stewart, of Wakefield; three daughters, Mrs. Elinor Antis, of Hopewell; Mrs. Dorothy Martin, of Glen Allen, and Miss Rose Mary Stewart, of Wakefield; three brothers, Willie B. Stewart [sic*; Stuart], of Richmond; Roy H. Stewart [sic*; Stuart], of Ashland, and Ashton L. Stewart [sic*; Stuart], of Richmond; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted at the Purviance Funeral Home at Wakefield, Monday at 2:30 with Rev. Ritchie Brittle and Rev. L.P. Bland officiating. Burial was in Rocky Hock Cemetery. Pallbearers were Brock Bailey, Dillard Faison, E.B.
