ADA SLADE BURIED MONDAY A funeral service was held Monday afternoon, February 23 in the Harcum Funeral Home, Waverly, for Mrs. Ada Barrett Richardson Slade, who died at her home in Dendron on February 21. Service were conducted by Rev. E.C. Smith, pastor of Dendron Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. Courtney Sheffield of the Waverly Church. Burial was in Waverly Cemetery. Mrs. Slade was born April 22, 1867 in Southampton County, the daughter of John Burwell and Nancy Barnes Barrett. She had been a resident of the Dendron community for the past 46 years, where she took an active part in the work of the Methodist Church until her health began to fail a few years ago. She is survived by three sons, John A. Richardson, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Herman B. Richardson of Waverly, and Wyatt Slade, Jr. of Dendron; one daughter, Mrs. Albert Fletcher, of Warrenton, Va.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; four brothers, John Barrett, of Colonial Heights, Waverly S. Barrett, of Dendron, M. Hugh Barrett, of Alexandria and Phillip Barrett, of Southampton; three sisters; Mrs. Philip Hines, of Ivor; Mrs. Richard Hargrave, of Colonial Heights, and Mrs. A.W. Barrett of Southampton. Active pallbearers were Harry W. Spratley, E.L. Hart, Garney Slade, Rufus Summerow, Garland Spartley, Wilson Cofer, C.S.
