Born April 1, 1927 he was a son of the late Robert James Slade and Edna Whitmore Slade. He retired in 1986 from Smithfield Packing Co. after 25 years of service; was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a charter member of the Wakefield Jaycees; a member of Wakefield Vol. Fire Dept.; and attended The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Wakefield. Mr. Slade is survived by his devoted wife, Rose Marie Ingram Slade; two sons, Kenneth J. Slade, Jr. and wife Dona, of Colonial Heights, and Michael B. Slade and wife, Lee Ann, of Midlothian; four grandchildren, Al Slade, Brad Slade, Brittany Slade and Braeden Slade; one great-granddaughter, Hannah Slade; a sister, Edna S. Pitts of Goochland; and several nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Robert J. Slade, Jr. and the late Mary S. Price. A Christian Wake will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at The Shrine of the Infant Jesus of Prague Catholic Church in Wakefield, by Father Carl DeSouza. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at the church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. Burial with military rites will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield Vol. Fire Dept., Wakefield, VA 23888, and the Waverly Vol. Rescue Squad, Waverly VA 23890. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge of arrangements.
