All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ RICHARD THOMAS SLADE WAKEFIELD - Richard Thomas 'Huck' Slade, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at his home in Wakefield, Va. Born Sept. 19, 1934, in Sussex County, he was the son of the late Robert Thomas Slade and Marjorie Noon Slade. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Huck had his own remodeling and repair business and retired as head of the maintenance department at the Virginia Diner after 20 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn B. Slade. He is survived by their son, Thomas Wayne Slade; two stepsons, Charles Lawrence 'Jimmy' Baldwin of Kitty Hawk, N.C., and William Lee 'Billy' Baldwin of Wakefield; one stepdaughter, Erma Sue Williams of Chesterfield, Va.; very special friend and caretaker, Elizabeth 'Lisa' O'Connor; two sisters, Almeda Lanier of Wakefield and Margarette Harris of Petersburg; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Jim Kerr officiating. Interment will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of David and Almeda Lanier, Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to the Wakefield Baptist Church, P.O. Box 567, Wakefield, VA 23888, or to the Sentara Home Care Hospice, 3508 Robs Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.
