DENDRON - Robert James Slade Sr., 74, of Dendron, died Thursday in a Suffolk hospital after a short illness. A lifelong resident of Surry County, he was a retired sawmill operator and carpenter. He was a member of Union Christian Church and a veteran of World War I. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Edna Whitmore Slade; two sons, R.J. Slade Jr. of Dendron and Kenneth J. Slade of Wakefield; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon C. Price of Elberon and Mrs. Charles S. Pitts of Goochland, and a brother, Carrie C. Slade of Dendron. Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield. Dr. R.E. Brittle, pastor of Hunterdale Christian Church, and the Rev. H.E. Crutchfield, a retired Christian minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Wakefield.
