He was a native of Edenton, N.C. He was a retired insurance agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Co., having worked for the company for 22 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of Wakefield Baptist Church, was a past Master of Wakefield Masonic Lodge No. 198, was a member of the Wakefield Sportsman’s Club and of the Loyal Order of The Moose No. 141, Suffolk. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Edna B. Skinner; two sons, A. Douglas Skinner of Wakefield and Wayne L. Skinner of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; five sisters, Betty S. Overton and Jessie S. Colson, both of Hertford, N.C., Stella S. Williams of Moyock, N.C., Alice S. Chappell of Edenton, N.C., and Sue S. Valek of Morristown, Minn.; a brother, J.C. Skinner of Edenton, N.C.; two half-sisters, Nell S. Rayfield of Virginia Beach and Laura S. Evans of Tyner, N.C.; a half-brother, W.C. Skinner Jr. of Edenton, N.C.; his step-mother, Lucille U. Ownley of Edenton, N.C.; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild. A funeral was conducted March 10 at Purviance Funeral Home by the Rev. Douglas M. Cotter and the Rev. Lewis Lawson. Burial with Masonic rites was in Wakefield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Sussex Cancer Unit, c/o Isabelle Norris, Waverly, Va. 23890 or to the Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad.
