Mr. Scarborough was a native of Sussex County. He was Surry County superintendent for the Virginia Department of Transportation, from which he retired in 1976 after 41 years. He was a member of Surry United Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Emma Wrenn Scarborough; a son, Robert L. Scarborough of Wakefield; a sister, Elizabeth S. Eldridge of Richmond; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. Donna Marie Foos and Dr. R.E. Brittle. Burial will be in Wakefield Cemetery. The family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad or Surry United Methodist Church.
