HOWARD PRESTON SHORT, SR. 

  Howard Preston Short Sr., 75, 102 Maney Drive, Newport News, died Wednesday 
in Riverside Hospital.

  A native of Philadelphia, he had been a Peninsula resident for the past 26 
years and retired from the storekeeping department of Newport News 
Shipbuilding and Dry Dock after 18 year's service.  He was a member of First 
United Methodist Church and the Suffolk Masonic Lodge.

  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Eleanor Short; a son, Howard Preston Short 
Jr. of Smithfield; a sister, Mrs. J.W. Raynor of Powellsville, N.C., and two 
grandchildren.

  The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight in Peninsula Funeral 
Home.

  The body will be taken to Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, where a funeral 
will be in Wakefield Cemetery.
