Born April 7, 1947, in Sussex County she was the daughter of the late Melvin Allen Freeman and Laura Arville Seeley Freeman. She was a high school graduate, a former employee of the Virginia Diner for 22 years, a member of Wakefield Baptist Church, a former member of Millfield Baptist Church, a former member of Millfield Baptist Church in Ivor for nine years, Zone #2 Governor for the Holland District Ruritans, member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, General Mahone Chapter and an avid quilter and member of an International Quilting Club. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving and devoted husband of nine years, Vernon L. Teall. Martha Anne is also survived by three sons, Leslie Arthur Bass Jr., Melvin Waine Bass, both of Wakefield, and Christopher Dow Bass; adopted children, McAllen Freeman Jr. of Lynchburg and JoAnne Freeman Coe of Richmond; three grandchildren, Amber Nicole Bass, Sidney Elizabeth Bass and Brandon Hunter Bass; her brother, McAllen Freeman Sr. of Richmond; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Purviance Funeral Home Chapel, Wakefield, with the Rev. Jim Kerr officiating. Committal services will follow in Wakefield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening, 7 until 8:30 p.m. Purviance Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
