She was the oldest daughter of the late Hugh and Ruth Postles of Arlington. Mrs. Tyler grew up in Arlington and graduated from the College of William and Mary in 1944 with a degree in English. After marrying William Allen Tyler, Jr., she moved to Blacksburg, VA while "Bill" pursued a degree in Forestry. While there, she worked as a librarian. Settling in Waverly in 1958, Bev and Bill raised four sons and were very active in the community. She taught English and other subjects at Annie B. Jackson Elementary School and Waverly Junior High School. After retiring from teaching, she went to work as a librarian at the Taylor Gray Library in Waverly. She served the community on the Waverly Rescue Squad auxiliary and was a long-time member of the Waverly Baptist Church. She was a member of Descendents of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence. Mrs. Tyler is survived by her sister, Virginia-Lee Postles Keithly and husband Tom; four sons, Hugh Gwynn Tyler and wife, Phyllis of Buckingham, James Stuart Tyler and wife, Nancy, of Fairfax, Steven Braxton Tyler and wife, Mimi of Fairfax, and John Christopher Tyler of Waverly; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces Rebekah Wood, Joyce Post, Allene Tyler, and Pat MacKusick, nephews Hugh and Mark Keithly, and former daughter-in-law Teresa Tyler. The family will receive friends at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory in Wakefield, VA on March 3, 2016 at 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Adam Tyler officiating. Burial will follow at Waverly Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890.
