Noel Creed Taylor, Jr., 84, died Friday, July 19, 2002, at his home in Dendron, VA. Born March 26, 1918 in Halifax County, VA, he was the son of the late Mary Ellen and Noel C. Taylor, Sr. Mr. Taylor was retired from Newport News Shipbuilding; was a longtime resident of Surry County; and served on the Surry Co. School Board from 1972 - 1989. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Arlene Ingram Taylor; daughters, Jennifer Bumpas and husband, Jim, of Colonial Heights, Va., and Mary Ellen Rickmond and husband, Darrell, of Williamsburg, Va.,; and four grandsons, Noel Bumpas and wife, Molly, of Burlington, VT., Matthew Bumpas of Seattle, VA, and Kent Rickmond and Daniel Rickmond of Williamsburg, Va. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 22, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Dendron United Methodist Church, Dendron, VA, with the Rev. Ray Rowland officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Crater Community Hospice, the Surry Co. Vol. Rescue Squad or the Dendron United Methodist Church. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge of arrangements.
