He was a native of Littleton, N.C. He retired in 1987 as post-master of the Dendron Post Office after 28 years. He had been a farmer. He was a deacon and Sunday school director of Dendron Baptist Church and was a former member and board chairman of the Surry County Social Service Board. He was a member of Surry Ruritan Club, the Wakefield Masonic Lodge 198 and Scottish Rites of Newport News and the Thomas Rolfe Branch of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. He was a World War II Navy veteran who served on the troop carrier William P. Biddle. Survivors include his wife, Nancy R. Faison Threewitts; three sons, J. Barry Threewitts of Harrisonburg, Robert F. Threewitts of Keezletown and Thomas R. Threewitts of Dendron; a sister, Virginia Edmonds of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; a brother, W.T. Threewitts, Jr. of Carry, N.C.; and five grandchildren. A funeral was conducted Mar. 4 in Purviance Funeral Home by the Revs. Parker Hooper and Philip R. Hart. Burial was in Wakefield Cemetery. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Dendron Baptist Church or to the American Cancer Society, Surry County Unit, Chairman, Clifton Barfield, Dendron, VA 23839. ****************************************************************************** JAMES ALBERT THREEWITTS James Albert Threewitts, 69, a resident of Dendron, VA, died Saturday, March 2. He was a native of Littleton, NC, a retired postmaster of Dendron, VA and a member of the Dendron Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Navy WWII. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Faison Threewitts of Dendron; three sons, J. Barry Threewitts of Harrisonburg, Robert F. Threewitts, Keezletown, Thomas R. Threewitts of Dendron; a sister, Mrs. Clarence Edmonds of Roanoke Rapids, NC; a brother, W.T Threewitts, Jr. of Cary, NC; five grandchildren, Kathryn, Christopher, Lee, Jason and Patrick Blake Threewitts. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 4 at 2:00 p.m. in the Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Dendron Baptist Church.
