A retired West Virginia farmer, he had lived in Wakefield for a number of years and was a carrier of the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He was a member of the Wakefield Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Frances Harris Waid and several nephews. A funeral service was held Sunday, October 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the Purviance Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. John H. Gettier, pastor of Wakefield Baptist Church officiating. Pallbearers were Sol Jenkins, Truett Garrett, John D. O'berry, Dr. E.C. Nettles, B.F. Ellis, Elwood Harris, J.E. Epperson Jr. and E.A. Hatch. Burial took place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Wakefield. Austin WAID, of Wakefield, retired WV farmer, "Richmond Times-Dispatch" carrier, b. 14 May 1892, WV, d. 1 Oct 1970, Suffolk, interred in Hillcrest Cemetery*, Wakefield, 4 Oct 1970, donated obit, publication unknown *Hillcrest Cemetery is now defunct; most of those interred there have been moved. (R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home) His first wife, Mamie Pearl (BOGGS) WAID (1893 - 1964), was also buried there. (D.Cert. 11943 {Wakefield #14}) Widowed, he 2m. widow Mary Frances (HARRIS; Mrs. Claude Elmo) HINES, 15 Aug 1964. (Wakefield #52) Frances & Claude are buried in Ivor Cemetery.
